Florida prosecutor caught in child sex sting attempts suicide
By The Associated Press
SANDUSKY, Mich. (AP) - A Florida prosecutor
who authorities say flew to Michigan for an expected sexual encounter with a 5-year-old girl has tried to hang himself in his jail cell.
John D.R. Atchison was being held on federal child sex solicitation charges at the Sanilac County Jail, 75 miles north of Detroit.
A cell mate shouted when he saw Atchison trying to hang himself with a sheet. Guards stopped him.
Atchison is an assistant U.S. attorney in Pensacola, Florida.
Authorities say he went to Michigan to meet what he thought was the mother of a 5-year-old girl with whom he arranged to have sex. The woman was a detective working in an Internet sex sting operation.

Man accused of leaving child porn at store
By The Associated Press
WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) - A Palm Bay man was arrested a week after police say he left behind explicit photos of a child at a Wal-Mart self-help photo machine.
According to police, Brian Neil Rozema was at the West Melbourne store when he used the machine to print out 140 photos. Authorities say some of the photos showed a child under the age of 12 engaging in various sexual acts.
Police say Rozema was apparently unaware that the machine had run out of paper without printing all of his photos. When a store clerk reloaded the paper, the machine printed more photos of the child.
West Melbourne Police retrieved the images off the hard drive and used them to identify the child and Rozema.
He was charged with four counts of sexual battery on a child under 12, 13 counts of lewd and lascivious molestation, 122 counts of child pornography and 140 counts of voyeurism. He is being held without bond.

Former
youth photographer gets 12 1⁄2 years for child porn
Bonita Springs man coached teams, was a big
brother with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of SW Fla. program
By Kristen Zambo - Tuesday,
October 24, 2006
A former Bonita Springs youth sports coach
and photographer wept while clutching a podium in federal court Monday,
before he was sentenced to more than a decade behind bars for passing
child pornography.
John E. Kutchmarek, of 27951 New York St.,
No. 4, was sentenced to 12½ years in federal prison after investigators
found a stockpile of child pornography in his trailer, some of it inside
of a safe by his bed. Investigators said he used peer-to-peer file-sharing
software, called Limewire, in which other Internet users with this program
could view his pictures and movie clips of child porn.
"I care about people. I care about
kids," a sobbing Kutchmarek said during the hearing in U.S. District
Court in Fort Myers. "I pray that nothing happens to these kids more
so than it has."
Assistant U.S. Attorney Yolande Viacava
said investigators found "well over 600 images" of child porn.

transporting child pornography here in October 2004, after manufacturing

NAPLES - COLLIER COUNTY
Deputy
fired after charge of possessing child porn
By Jennifer Brannock - Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Possessing child pornography is the latest charge
facing a Collier County sheriff’s deputy, capping off what has
already been a tumultuous month for the Sheriff’s Office.
Charles “Jay” Jonas
Green, 54, served as a deputy
sheriff in Collier County for 27 years. He was fired Tuesday after being
charged with 69 counts of possessing child pornography, authorities said.
“Jay Green besmirched us all, and our reputations,”
Sheriff Don Hunter said Tuesday. “I cannot express the amount of
disappointment and sadness we feel about our reputation and what has
happened.”
The latest charge isn’t the first time
Green has gotten in trouble with the Sheriff’s Office because of
pornography.
Green was demoted from field lieutenant — a supervisor
position — to corporal after investigators discovered pornographic
images on his agency-issued laptop computer in 2001. |
